It is used in modelling and acting/performance to indicate that :- on the good side - your not expected to pay anything - on the bad side - your not going to get any payment either!!

So it's free then?

Ah now this is where we hit the problem - free is the wrong term - to offer for example "free headshots" would as a professional photographer be unprofessional if by doing so you are taking the living of another photographer away from them.

Time for is a way of both of us getting a good deal - you get my time and lots of images, I get your time and lot's of images! We charge ourselves exactly the same amount for that time - so neither of us owe the other anything!!
