So you think you want to be an actor?

You and millions of others - so why are you different from them?

Acting is not an easy option - sure anyone can say they are an actor, but what does it really involve and just how good are you?

These are the early questions I have to address when meeting someone with the acting dream.

It normally takes about 20 minutes to have an idea if there is a spark of talent in there, and the day tends to seal the conclusion.

Oddly early thoughts normally prove right!

So what are we looking for here?

It's not actual acting ability as such, it's how someone moves, enthuses in their chat about performance - has a "lets do this attitude" - more than anything else it's that "I can do this" even after several failed attempts at getting it right.

The interesting thing is I have young people come to me with thoughts of modelling as their intended path, but after a few minutes their natural acting performance talent shines dimly in the way they take part. At this point they don't even know themselves - it often comes as a shock when I suggest - shall we try a bit of acting?

The next few hours will then either confirm it or put my judgement into question. It's not what they do, but how they do it - how they keep going even if they feel they are making a fool of themselves, and yes how suddenly they find they are actually enjoying themselves.

This is the basis on which The Halfling Project and Wildven is based.
